Built-in power solves a problem almost every bedroom has and almost no furniture addresses.

Bedroom outlets are usually behind the bed or low on a wall the headboard covers. The result is the familiar arrangement: a phone cable running up the back of the nightstand, a lamp lead crossing the floor, and a plug you cannot reach without moving furniture.

Putting two outlets, a USB-A and a USB-C port on the unit itself moves the connection point to where you actually use it. One cable runs to the wall, and everything else plugs in at the surface.

USB-C is the specification that matters most here. It has become the standard connector across phones, tablets, headphones and e-readers, and a nightstand with only USB-A would already be dating itself. Having both means you can charge an older device and a current one without hunting for an adapter.

Worth knowing what the listing does not say: no wattage or charging speed is published for either USB port. Built-in furniture ports are often modest rather than fast, so if overnight charging is the use case this is fine, and if you need a quick top-up before leaving the house it may be slower than your wall charger.

The adjustable drawer position is genuinely unusual. The fabric drawer can be installed in either of two positions, which changes the proportions of the unit rather than just its looks.

Drawer high gives you a deep open shelf underneath, which suits larger items like folded blankets or a stack of books. Drawer low gives you a taller open middle shelf, which is the better arrangement if you keep a speaker, a tablet or a charging dock at the surface.

Most furniture asks you to accept its proportions. Being able to choose them at assembly is a small thing that makes the same unit work in two different situations, and it can be changed later if your needs do.

Now the sizing question, which is the one to check before ordering. A nightstand works best when its surface sits within about two inches of your mattress top, so you can reach a glass of water without looking or stretching.

At 23.4 inches this suits a mattress top of roughly 22 to 26 inches, which covers a standard bed and most beds with a topper. It will be too tall for a low platform bed, where the mattress top might sit at 20 inches, and noticeably short beside a tall storage bed at 30 inches.

Measure from the floor to the top of your mattress before deciding. It is the single check that determines whether a nightstand works day to day.

The narrow footprint is a practical advantage. At 11.8 inches deep and 15.7 wide it slots into the tight gap between a bed and a wall that many nightstands overfill, and the three tiers mean the storage goes upward rather than outward.

Two things to note on the specification. The load rating is 33 pounds, which is among the lowest we have covered. For normal bedside use, a lamp, a book, a glass and a phone come to well under half that, so it is adequate rather than concerning, but it is not a surface for a stack of hardbacks and a heavy speaker together.

The construction is P2 particle board on a metal frame. Particle board uses larger chips than MDF and is weaker around screws and at cut edges, so this is furniture to assemble carefully and not to over-tighten. Adjustable feet are included, which is a useful touch on an uneven bedroom floor.
