Why we picked it

Most bedside lamps solve the too bright at 2am problem with dimming. This one solves it differently, and arguably better: each lamp has two separate light sources, a main light under the shade and an exposed Edison bulb below it, switched independently.

The difference matters more than it sounds. A dimmed main light is still the main light, throwing the same shape of illumination around the room, just weaker. A separate night light is a genuinely different fixture in a different position, casting a small warm pool rather than a dim version of full brightness. For getting up in the night without waking properly, the second is considerably better.

It also gives you three usable settings without any dimming electronics: night light alone, main light alone, or both together for reading. Push buttons rather than touch control means no risk of a pet or a knocked cable switching the lamp on, and no flicker or buzz from mismatched bulbs, which is the recurring failure mode of touch lamps.

The bulbs are well specified and well chosen. Four are included, two per lamp, at 3000K and 805 lumens. That colour temperature is warm without being amber, and 805 lumens is roughly a 60 watt incandescent equivalent, which is the right output for a bedside or end table lamp. Nothing to buy and nothing to replace on arrival.

Exposed Edison bulbs are also a deliberate design choice rather than an oversight. The visible filament is the point, which is why the styling works as farmhouse or industrial rather than looking like a lamp missing a shade.

What you give up is dimming. Each light source is on or off, so you cannot soften the main light for reading in bed, only choose which of two fixed levels you want. If you specifically want to fine-tune brightness, a 3-way touch lamp will do that and this will not.

At 24 inches this is the tallest lamp we have covered, which suits a lower nightstand or a taller mattress. On a standard 24 to 26 inch nightstand, a 24 inch lamp puts the shade comfortably above eye level when you are sitting up, which is right for a living room end table and possibly a little high for reading in bed.

The USB-A and USB-C ports are in the base and stay live with the lamp off, as they should. No amperage figure is published, so treat charging speed as standard rather than fast.

The honest take

What we like

  • Separate night light gives better low-level light than dimming the main lamp
  • Three usable settings without any dimming electronics to fail
  • Push buttons cannot be triggered accidentally the way touch controls can
  • Four warm 3000K bulbs included at a sensible 805 lumens
  • No dimmable bulb requirement, so replacements are simpler
  • USB ports stay live when the lamp is off

Worth knowing

  • No dimming at all, only on or off for each light source
  • 24 inches may sit high for reading in bed on a standard nightstand
  • Exposed Edison bulbs are a strong look that will not suit every room
  • USB amperage is not published, so charging speed is unknown
  • Four bulbs to replace eventually rather than two

Two lights beat one dimmed light
