Why we picked it

The panoramic crop is doing real work here, and it is not just a shape preference.

A 2:1 format cuts away sky and foreground, leaving the horizontal band where the interesting information sits. On a forest scene that means the trunks, the light coming through them and the ground colour, without a large area of empty canopy above.
