The single biggest thing a glass coffee table does is take up no visual space.

A solid table is a block in the middle of a room. You see its top, its sides and its shadow, and the floor disappears underneath it. A glass top lets you see straight through to the rug and the floor, so the room reads as larger and less interrupted even though the footprint is identical.

Those are reconcilable: this is almost certainly MDF with a wood-effect finish or a thin veneer, not solid timber. MDF is dimensionally stable and takes a finish well, and on a shaped leg it is far cheaper to produce than carved hardwood.

What you should not expect is the depth of real grain that shifts as you move past it, or a surface that can be sanded and refinished if it scuffs. It is also worth keeping MDF legs dry, since swelling at an edge is the usual failure point.

Tempered glass is the right specification for a table top. Tempering makes glass several times stronger and, more importantly, causes it to break into small blunt fragments rather than long shards. On a surface at shin height in a living room, that matters.

The gap is that no glass thickness is published, and on a table that is the number you most want. Thickness governs both stiffness and the sense of solidity when you set something down. Given the 220 pound rating the glass is clearly substantial, but a stated figure would be better than an inference.

On height, 16.1 inches is slightly low by current convention. The usual guidance is a coffee table within an inch or two of your sofa seat height, and most sofas sit between 17 and 19 inches. So this will sit an inch or three below the cushion on most sofas.

That is not a fault, and it suits the low-slung look the design comes from. But if your sofa is on the taller side, reaching down to it will feel like more of a stretch than you expect. Measure your seat height before ordering.
