Why we picked it

Round pleated pillows — sometimes called pumpkin or macaron cushions — are having a moment, and most of what’s available is machine-pleated. The difference shows: machine pleating produces even, slightly mechanical folds, while hand-sewn pleats have subtle irregularity that catches light differently across the surface. On velvet, where the whole appeal is how the nap shifts as you move past it, that matters more than it would on a flat fabric.

The shape is the other reason to consider these. A round cushion breaks up a sofa full of squares, and that contrast is exactly what stops a styled sofa looking like a showroom display. Two of them at 14.5″ is enough to register without crowding the seat.

Olive is a genuinely useful colour here too. It’s a muted, earthy green that sits comfortably against cream, tan, walnut and most natural materials — warm enough to feel considered rather than clinical, but restrained enough not to fight with what’s already in the room.

The limitation is care, and it’s a real one. These are spot clean only, because the pleating and velvet nap don’t survive machine washing. That makes them decorative pillows in the strict sense — good on a vanity chair, a bed, or the end of a sofa nobody eats on. If your living room involves children, pets, or regular snacking, a removable washable cover will serve you far better.
