Why we picked it

A black, grey and white abstract is the most forgiving artwork you can hang, and that is worth more than it sounds.

Coloured art has to agree with a room. A teal canvas needs a scheme that can carry teal; a warm ochre piece looks wrong against cool grey walls. Change the sofa or repaint, and the artwork that suited the old room can suddenly look like a leftover.
